Beyond the Classroom operate excellent raft building challenges for school groups. Students are given ropes, inner tubes, sealed PVC tubes, and timber, and teams must construct a raft in a given time frame.
Raft Building activity offers the developmental experience to plan as a group and stick to a plan or look at the processes of how and why the plan was changed. It enables everyone in the team to get involved and contribute and works on communication skills. The program includes paddles, PFD and equipment. At the end of the session students normally race their rafts and the winning team is awarded.
Raft building is also included in the itinerary at our Camp Illawonga campsite on the River Murray. We run this as a "river survival" program with life skills and raft building combined.
Raft building is available as a stand alone activity i.e. as an excursion near Adelaide CBD or as part of an aquatic or adventure camp at Wallaroo, at Robe, on the Fleurieu Peninsula or on the Murray river.
How it works
Teams are given a range of items, they must build a raft in a given time frame and then we finish off with a raft race.
